Scottish Coat of Arms
In early time during the crest of war each king depicted his country’s symbol in almost all the objects which they used during the war time. Even in the coat of arms they have their own emblem. The coat of arm which was used by the Scottish king William I during twelfth century was known as Scottish coat of arms. This was till in practice before the amendment of acts of union in 1751.then it became royal coat of arms of United Kingdom used in Scotland due to union of crown. The Scottish coat of arms had a yellow background on which a powerful fury red lion with blue color tongue and claws was present in the centre of the field. With a decorative red double noble plait gules counter. In the modern Scottish coat of arms which is used had this ferocious lion in the first and the fourth quarters of the shield while those of England occupying second quarter and in the third quarter is the harp of Ireland. Generally all these will be containing some motto written above the crest. The olden one had Scottish words but in some modern versions the impregnate of the Latin words were also noticed. The motto written in that was “in my defens god me defend”. The crest in the Scottish coat of arms which seated upon the helm sometimes contained lion with out scepters. Some of the other variations which are found are lion holding the great sword in its paw at some inclined position and the other one is the sword passing through the head of the crowned lion. All these variations were only to a very small extend which might have happened because of the artistic and sculptures thought which duplicated in order not to slaughter the originality.
